The itinerary and prices for May 2012 are still being finalized. Check back for updated info.

Imagine paddling right next to an elephant, or falling asleep to the roar of a lion in the distance, or seeing a giraffe stroll in front of your truck. Take the amazing trip you've always dreamed of and come explore Botswana with us.

We will paddle through the beautiful Botswana Delta for six days staying in secluded campsites shared only by the animals. The second half of the trip will take us over the land on a traditional mobile safari where we will search for the BIG cats (lions, leopards, and cheetahs), wild dogs, giraffes, and who know what other animals you will see!

In addition to two AIF guides, we will use certified local guides and support staff. Tent camping, local transport, and most meals are included.

Preliminary Itinerary

The prices, durations, timings, and locations listed in this Preliminary Itinerary may change.

Day 1:  Arrival
Welcome to Maun, Botswana.  We will pick you up at the airport and take you to the "Old Bridge" Backpackers, where you will spend a relaxing evening sleeping right next to the Okavango Delta.  The "Bridge", as the locals call it, has a great bar, restaurant,  pool, and if you're lucky, you might catch site of the famous Bridge hippo.  We will camp in tents, but upgrades to "en-suite" tent cabins are available.  (No meals included, but restaurant at the Bridge)

Day 2:  Boat Shuttle across the Delta.
On your second day in Botswana, we will load up the motor boats and spend a relaxing day traveling across the Delta to our "put in" or starting point.  You will have the opportunity to preview our route and take photos of some amazing flora and fauna.  We will arrive late at our first campsite just in time to setup camp and prepare dinner.  (Meals:  lunch, dinner)

Day 3-6:  Kayaking with the elephants

Paddling across the Delta is amazing.  You'll hear the sounds of the tall reeds brushing, see the big red sun reflect off of the water, and then you might just see an elephant eating grass not more than 100 feet away.  After an easy 5-15 mile paddle, you will arrive at our secluded campsite, only shared by the animals.  While the guides are setting up your tent and preparing a Botswana or Western meal, you will have the opportunity to go fishing, or go for a stroll in the bush to look for animals.  All of your gear will be carried in our support boat, including a bucket shower.  In the morning, if there is time, we will head out again to look for more animals, possibly elephants, zebra, impala, giraffe, baboons, rare owls, and perhaps more.  You will fall asleep to the frogs croaking and perhaps lions roaring. (Meals: All)

Day 7:  Back at the Bridge

On our last day on the water, we will paddle back to the Bridge for a well deserved drink(s), shower, and meal.  We will spend a relaxing night here and get ready to head out for the second half of our journey. We will camp in tents, but upgrades to "en-suite" tent cabins are available. (Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch)

Day 8-10Land Safari  Moremi
We wake up early and begin our mobile safari.  You will be transported in elevated safari trucks to moremi National Park where our crew will setup your comfortable walk-in tents with private bathroom and bucket shower.  In the mornings and evening, we will head out to look for animals.  Past clients have seen lions, cheetahs,  impala, elephants, giraffes, wild dogs, wart hogs, hippos, more impala, beautiful birds, and more.  Most of our guides grew up in the "bush" and have spent their lives tracking animals. The middle of the day is spent relaxing around camp, eating lunch, and resting in your tent.  (Meals:  All except, first breakfast)

Day 11-13:  Land Safari  Savuti

After a few days in Moremi, we will pack up and head off to Savuti which is a private reserve owned by a local tribe.  There is more game to view in Savuti and we have the opportunity for night drives where people have seen lions and leopards hunting. Our last night will be spent back at the Bridge.   (Meals:  All, except last dinner)

Day 14: Goodbyes
After a final night at the Bridge, the next day we will transfer you back to the Maun airport for a fond farewell with great memories.  (Meals:  None)
